Everything about Christmas is magical to me. The sounds, the smells, the stories (both fantastical and religious). And the lights. Oh, the lights. They make everything beautiful in an otherwise dark and dreary time. They’re a true symbol of the light that we need during this time.

Each Christmas for the last three years, I’ve done a photo session that incorporates the season, and those lights, and store windows all lit up. As a RI children’s photographer, it is a really fun tradition. Photographing at night by the light of store windows can be challenging, but it’s also fun. Night time is a whole different world.

For the last few years, these sessions have occurred in downtown Wakefield. This year, we moved a little further north, to Wickford. A change of scenery was nice, and Wickford is also lovely during Christmas. (Hot tip: they also have a bunch of places where you can finish up any last minute Christmas shopping you may need to do.) We went with a Nutcracker theme this year, with my subject being Clara. There she was, looking in the window of a store, dreaming away…and all of a sudden, her nutcracker appeared!
