Winter Queen • RI Children's Photographer
As a RI children's photographer, I have had shoots in all kinds of weather: hot, cold, sunny, foggy, cloudy, even some rain. The kind of weather that's been a bit elusive, over the past year, at least, is snow. If you remember last winter, there wasn't much snow, and there hasn't been too much of it this year, either.
That said, there have been visions of a snow shoot dancing in my head for some time. On a recent weekend, there were snow showers in the forecast and so the winter queen shoot started to become a reality. As the date came closer, it became clear that it would be a little more than snow showers. Mother nature gave us a beautiful blanket of white and thousands of softly falling snowflakes.
The beautiful winter queen, Miss M, and I went to the South County bike path in Wakefield, which becomes a gorgeous winter wonderland in the snow. Miss M looked every part a beautiful snowy winter queen and despite the chill and falling snow, she danced and twirled. We had a special guest at our shoot: a pomegranate. If you're familiar with Greek mythology, you may recall that winter occurs because the goddess Persephone was bound to the underworld for six months because she ate six pomegranate seeds. We interpreted Persephone a little bit differently than usual, but that's what is great about art (and we definitely had winter represented!)
