Extended Family Studio Session | RI Family Photographer
Back in June I got an email inquiring about a photo session. Not at all an unusual thing for a photographer! It was a session that had a very small window of time in which it needed to occur, and that window was fast approaching. Those two things can make scheduling a session tricky for any photographer this time of year, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. As I do with all inquiries, I picked up the phone to have a chat, see what photo needs exist, and see how I can help.
The person on the other end of the phone let me know that her 93-year-old mother was flying out for a visit from California in a few days. This might be the last time her mom would be able to come out and visit. She really wanted to commemorate this, and have a photo session with her mom, herself, and her three adult daughters. She wanted photos of her daughters with her mom, and her with her mom. Plus, it had been quite some time since she’d had a portrait of her daughters all together (like not since they were all very young) so having that portrait updated would also be important.
Her story, her family dynamic and her needs struck a chord with me. Not too many years ago, when my grandmother was still alive and my mom’s youngest sister was still alive, I did a photo session with my mom, her sisters, and my grandmother. As a RI family photographer, I know how important those photos were and are to my family, and I knew how important these photos would be to this family. This is specifically why I do my job. I had a small window of time during mom’s visit where I could fit in a studio session at my Charlestown, RI studio. Could they make it? Yes! They could!
Meeting this entire family was a joy. Listening to the 93-year-old matriarch talk about her life, the things she’s accomplished, and some of her life tips was an incredible experience. This session was a joy and resulted in a number of gorgeous, large prints to be enjoyed for years. Take a look below to see some of the images from our session, and make sure to talk to me about scheduling that important legacy session with your loved ones.
