My Favorite Locations: South County Bike Path • RI Family Photographer
It’s been awhile since I’ve written a post on another one of my favorite locations, so I decided to change that!
The South County Bike Path (officially named the William C. O’Neill Bike Path) is a great place for walks, bike rides, runs…and also photo sessions.
As a RI family photographer, it is a favorite spot for me to use, especially for sessions in the snow.
When it snows out, the bike path is empty, quiet, and looks like a magical winter wonderland. It is also fairly easy to access from multiple different points, which is important if there is snow falling or on the ground.
My favorite area for bike path photos in the snow is right in the middle of Wakefield, behind the school. The background is just dreamy with falling sow and snow covered trees, and there are several ways to easily reach this part of the path. Even though bikers are few on these days, the occasional rider on a fat tire bike will go by, and there are also cross country skiers who will take advantage of the conditions.
Of course, we don’t live in an area where it snows all the time. (In fact, waiting for snow to show up for those who specifically want snow sessions is a little nerve-wracking!) We have far more days where snow isn’t on the ground, and when there are leaves on the trees.
The bike path also provides a great backdrop for photos during warmer climes and sunnier days. It offers six miles of beautiful scenery and leading lines, with multiple areas along its length very easy to access for a session. Late spring though fall tends to be a bit more busy on the bike path due to bikers, runners, and walkers on the path, so it’s not a spot that I use as much in warmer months. That said, we can always find a time of day or part of the path that works for photos, no matter the time of year.
