Sidewalk Dancing • RI Family Photographer
When you think of dancing, especially in pointe shoes, your mind probably first moves to seeing a ballet like the Nutcracker or Swan Lake, or maybe you think of a ballet studio.
It’s not all the time that you see someone on pointe on a local sidewalk, but recently that’s something I got to see (and photograph). My lovely friend Dayle Embleton, who dances professionally in LA, came home for the holidays. Not only did I get to see her, but I got to photograph her. This girl always has some ideas! It’s always a joy to photograph her, and as a RI family photographer, it’s been awesome to see her talent ever increase over the years. So we put our brains together and decided to do a late afternoon session on the sidewalks and streets of Wickford.
Our session was the week before Christmas, and there were some nice decorations and lights on the area homes. Dayle came prepared with both her pointe shoes and her character shoes (the ones with the heels…I didn’t know what character shoes were until she told me!) This girl had no issue getting up on her toes or kicking super high in freezing cold weather. It’s amazing to see…and it also makes my hips hurt a little just to watch. Also, she’s never met a fence, light post, or other stationary object that she can’t use as a vehicle for striking a lovely and graceful pose.
Take a look below to see images from our session, and don’t forget to follow Dayle on Instagram to see more of her!
